did not finish [Mar. 4th, 2012|02:15 pm]

They closed the course... got to mile 18... the race official said I could continue at my own risk... but there would be no water or aid for the duration. I made a decision of personal health and safety over pride, and I withdrew from the race after 18 miles and change.

I could have finished... I was in little pain... much less than in 2008... but it was just not worth it. I would have been listed last again... if i would have been listed at all...

At the end of the day, the fact of the matter is I entered the 2012 Little Rock Marathon for entirely the wrong reasons. It shouldn't be about not finishing last... it should be about finishing at all. But when the race official stops you, detains you for five minutes while he radioes in to see if i would even be allowed to continue... not only did it take my momentum, but it took my give-a-fuck. Demoralizing, it was.

Next year, I will use the early start so this doesn't happen again, or I will train harder and ensure that I can keep a six-hour pace. The rules clearly state that the course closes at 2pm... so I can't blame the race official. I just did it for the wrong reasons.

Oh... You know these postings didn't read right. While skimming over LJ during the day I actually picked up on the words "rock" and "marathon" and was thinking about music streams or somesuch...

Better luck next time still! Running isn't for me... I did try though: Could go for about 6 miles or so in my best time but I couldn't get any improvement after that and that sucks the motivation out too.

I think you should do both just to be sure and not care what place you end up in as long as you finish. You're in much better shape than a twig like me. :p

Well, first of all - you tried, I never have, and may never. Second of all - you tried once, came in last place, and still tried again - would be surprised if I could do that. You didn't finish, and you're still talking about trying again. I think that's better than most, and I think it speaks very strongly of your character.

Good luck next year! Train hard, and take the early start just in case. ;)

Remember a great motivational quote: We can only fail, and try to fail better next time.

I think since both times you entered, someone died, we are all GLAD AS FUCK that you didn't die and aren't really concerned about anything else. You ran 18 miles? Dang, I've never run even one mile. I'm glad you're not in lots of pain too- big improvement over last time!
